The Gods Bear Witness

I imagine being loved by you
In the wanting bow
Of a shade giving tree
In the longing hope
Of Eurydice.

I imagine being loved by you
In the calamitous blow
Of a planet’s creation
In the ebbs and flows
Born of Poseidon.

I imagine being loved by you
In sacrifice and birth
In a pious prayer
A crop of wildflowers
In gifts from Antheia.

I imagine being loved by you
When oil is currency
Skylines rise, viruses rage
We seek the shade of the tree.

Protests roar, leaders deceive
Threats to democracy
We lay in salt at the ocean’s edge
Piquing the gods’ curiosity.

Because in all the ages
They’ve never known a love like
The one I imagine for me.
